Relationships in this game are viewed a little differently than in the books. We'll explain exactly how here.
For starters, cats generally do not take a single 'mate' for life. They usually mate with several cats throughout their lives, and may not stay close to the cat they have mated with. Mating is not seen as something pleasurable to do with a loved one. Rather, it is seen as a way of producing more future warriors for the Clan and just that. This is why, on this site, we don't refer to cats who have kits together as mates. We just say that they have mated.
There is no romantic connection to mating. Therefore, a cat may have a cat that they love romantically, but they can still mate with a different cat without worrying about things such as betrayal or cheating because that simply isn't an issue in this society. Some cats wishing to have kits may ask a close friend of theirs if they are willing to have kits with them, and this is perfectly acceptable.
Crushes or other such infatuations would also be seen as odd and distracting to the Clans. It is normal to love another cat, but it is not normal to be obsessed with them to the point that they cannot focus on their duties. A cat's main focus is to provide for and protect their Clan. They should not be worrying excessively whether another cat feels the same way about them.
Hopefully this has helped you understand the relationship dynamic of this site a bit better. If you have any questions, please leave them in a comment below!
