[ Rex ] Tom | 44 Moons | Loner
Rex led the way out of the Twolegplace and toward the woodlands just beyond Rosemont's backyard with veiled uncertainty, glancing from side to side every now and then to make sure his charges remained close as promised. His heartbeat had increased with both excitement and anxiety the closer they came to the forest. Rex was truly thrilled to take these young cats on this outing. It had been a long time since he had taught anyone anything. Not since Flame and Fox were kits. On the other paw...it would be just his luck if they ran into something unpleasant. 'You promised these cats you would keep them safe. They believe in you. Now you must have faith in yourself.' He stopped just in front of the first rows of trees, his inner pep-talk boosting his self-confidence ever so slightly. "Well, we're here. Are you both ready?" He asked cheerily, searching both Rose and Popsicle's faces in the hopes they felt the same enthusiasm he was now displaying himself.

Rosemont | She-Cat | 9 moons | Kittypet Rosemont had to still her racing paws quite often as they traveled outside of Twolegplace, walking along the concrete sidewalks and into the grasses of back yards without fences, until finally towering trees came into view, tall enough that Rose didn’t know if she could even climb all the way to the top or not. She could easily do it with the smaller tree in her garden, but these trees were massive and old, growing here for years before she was even born. One of the trees, not quite as thick as some of the others, caught her attention, especially with its rounded upper appearance and the red flowers growing from its branches. She didn’t know it, but this was a Rowan tree, specifically Sorbus aucuparia.
Her little heart felt like it was about to explode in her chest. At long last, she would feel what it was like to have non-pedicured grass under her feet, would be able to scent all the creatures of the wilds. Even if there were some scary things lurking in the woods, she was confident that Rex would be able to warn them and tell them what to do if things got rough.
“I’m ready!” she meowed, gazing up at Rex with big blue eyes. This was the most exciting day of her life so far, even more so than when she was first allowed to go out into the garden. Rose could see the birds high up in the trees now, one of them settled on a branch just staring at the cats as if it had never seen one of their kind before. It didn’t dare come down though; whether or not it was young and inexperienced, it knew better than to throw caution to the wind and fly down to check things out.

Rosemont’s ceaseless enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed and Rex found himself smiling as much as a cat possibly could. He recalled he must have looked much the same once, wandering into the woods for the very first time with his old friend Bella walking just ahead ready to show him what the wilds had to offer. Now he was doing the same for this young cat. “So, what do you think so far? Is it everything you imagined it to be?”
In the end Popsicle had backed out of their little adventure, returning to his Twoleg's den. Perhaps it had all been a bit too much for the younger cat. Rex wouldn't hold it against him. The forest could be a scary place for the inexperienced. "Let's get started then," he purred, leading the queen into the forest. "Can you smell anything?" It was likely all the scents would be an overload for her, but Rex couldn't help being curious how sharp her senses might prove. Being born a kittypet didn't necessarily mean she lacked the skills of a wild cat. She just had to be taught to use them properly.
