I don't recall them ever explaining it. Unless it does in the next series, since I haven't read that far yet. Or unless I just can't remember. XD

I've read up until Dawn of the Clans (don't own those yet) and I can't remember them ever explaining, but I honestly might have just forgotten haha.

Ahh, that's right, it was a solar eclipse. Hence the name Sol xD It's been a long time, for sure. I'll have to reread them all soon. And as far as I can remember, they don't ever explain it. He just knows. :P
Also, I realized that spoilers for the series might be a future issue for some on this site, so I installed a new plugin for spoiler tags. It's at the end on the right when writing a post. I haven't tried it myself yet, so let me know if there's anything that needs tweaking or if I should look for a different one ^^

{Spoiler} It is possible Midnight could have told Sol about the upcoming eclipse since she told him about the Clans in the first place, but I don't think it's ever been confirmed for sure.

{Spoiler} I accept this answer. Midnight seems to be able to talk to StarClan, so she could probably talk to forces that would know about the eclipse.

on the topic of events, i think it'd be interesting to have various predators lurking around. there should be at least a couple of foxes hanging about given how long it's been since the clans have disappeared. maybe driving them out could help bring cats together and reinforce the idea that being part of a bigger group would be beneficial.
