Plot: Sometimes, the barrier between universes grows thin, allowing living beings to pass through it. Humans call these places "Crossroads," for a man might follow a path in any direction and find himself stepping into a whole new world. One such place has opened up on the East coast of the United States. Long dormant, the portal began to show weak signs of life nearly a decade ago. As time went on, the barrier grew weaker with every new being that passed through until -- by the year 2015 AD -- creatures unlike any Earth had ever seen were being thrust through the portal and trapped on our side.



What caused the portal to open? There are various theories. Some would say that the world will soon be in dire need of the assistance of these creatures. Others believe that the weakening of the barrier has to do with the alignment of planets, and there are some that don't believe in the existence of the Crossroads at all. None of them consider the opening of the Crossroads to be of any great concern. Like the Bermuda Triangle, they accept it as a place where strange things sometimes happen, but otherwise forget about it entirely.



Earth's newest arrivals don't see things that way, however. Some are desperate to get back to their homelands, some have resigned themselves to their fates and are trying to make a home for themselves in the modern world, but plenty of evil creatures consider Earth's Humans to be the perfect form of prey.
