NOTE: I am dyslexic, and therefore may word things oddly or use weird terms. This is specifically relevant here, as I refer to genetically black tabbies as "black tabbies" instead of "brown tabbies," because it's easier for me to remember and understand. My brain defaults "brown" and "chocolate" to meaning the same thing, so it's easiest for me to refer to them this way so as to not confuse myself. Thank you.
Name: Onyx
Desired Name: When they join a clan (which I plan for her to do in the future) I do not care what the suffix for their name is, however I want to keep "Onyx" as the prefix.
Age: 20 moons
Rank: Does not apply.
Allegiance: Loner
Birth Moon: The Wolf Moon, 2015
Gender: Queen. I will be using they/them pronouns for them, however, as I have gotten no strong gendered feelings for this character one way or the other. I doubt they'd care much what pronouns are used for them, so do whatever.
Appearance: They are of Japanese Bobtail decent, and have an extreme version of the bobbed tail resulting in no visible tail at all. Their previous owners were particularly interested in bobtails; Onyx's mother came about from an unwanted breeding between a purebred Japanese Bobtail and a stray, who was taken in by their previous owners. That cat, of course, later gave birth to their litter in a cross with a pure-bred but non show-standard tom that was also owned by the same people. (I am keeping record of this for my own genotyping, shown below.)
Onyx is a black, long-furred cat with gray smoke markings throughout their coat. They have a sturdy build, long legs, and no tail from birth- overall they resemble a more bulky version of a regular Japanese Bobtail, with extremely short tail to the point of not being visible under their long coat.
Onyx has pale green eyes, which contrast nicely against the dark color of their coat.
Below I will be making up all information on their genotype, as well as the genotypes of all relevant family members. Click the word "Genetics" to see them, if you like.
Personality: Onyx can be overall described as hard-working and dedicated in everything they do; It doesn't matter what it is they're working toward, or whether or not they enjoy the work, it will always be tackled with a certain level of dedication and determination to get it done. That said, it's not surprising that Onyx really dislikes those who DON'T pull their own weight- lay abouts and people who give only half effort annoy them to no end; This is probably Onyx's biggest pet-peeve, and a sure fire way to piss them off is to refuse to do the work needed to assist your group.
That said, Onyx will fully admit that they are probably not the most pleasant person to be around, and that they are pretty bad at the whole "having fun" thing. Thankfully, it isn't as though they believe that everywhere should be a No Fun Zone, or that anyone should have to go their life without doing things that they enjoy. They take as much enjoyment in watching the people they care about be happy as anyone else; They're just not so great at the whole "letting loose" thing themself.
Their ideas on violence and fighting are a little odd for a wild cat; Probably because they were raised in a two-leg home, and so have some different ideas on how things should and should not be done. For instance, they believe that fighting someone just to get what you want is weak within itself- That it somehow proves you're not smart enough to get the things you want otherwise, or that you don't have the compassion to make a compromise with people.
This is not to say that Onyx is a pacifist, or anything of the sort- they just see violence as a last resort; a sort of "if someone's going to hurt me or someone else, I'll fight, but otherwise there's a better way to work out our problems." It's unsurprising that this means they're not the best at fighting, but at the very least, they can stay level-headed and rational.
On that note, this is usually their reaction to hostility- they try to remain as calm as possible, from insults to claws flying. Where attacks will be met with careful attempts to fight back, insults will be met with dull annoyance and, depending on the insult, either a drive to prove the person wrong or a brushing off with "That is really not anything I care about."
To give an example of the differences:
Someone saying "You're a terrible hunter, how can you not catch even a little bird?" would probably be met with two or three birds dropped at their paws the next day, just to prove them wrong.
However, someone telling them "You look horrible, blah blah blah" a petty thing like that would be quickly shot down with a sarcastic "Ah, yes, because my looks are the most important thing to me. Clearly. Wow, I'm so hurt. Your words have wounded me."
The last thing I will mention is that they thrive on things like teamwork, order, and clear rules- This comes partly from their owners having been pretty strict about what was and wasn't okay (no climbing on furniture, no scratching, not allowed in the kitchen, meow at the door to be let out instead of scratching, ect.) as well as took joy in training their cats to do various different tricks; Something that was scheduled. Now without any schedule to work off of, they feel a little lost- the idea of the clans is kind of interesting to them for this reason, knowing that they had a whole team dynamic and were not only hard workers, but worked to a specific set of rules that could be easily followed. It's really their dream, altogether, although they have little idea of how to pursue the possibility of being a part of a clan.
History: Born a kittypet, Onyx was trained and cared for by their housefolk from a young age, and never really had to leave the home that the twoleg pair lived in until recently. They had three siblings- Mira, Hero, and Comet. They were never particularly close to either of the later two, but Mira was always their best friend. The who did practically everything together when they were young, up until they were old enough to be given away to other owners- Onyx in particular stayed with their parents and original housefolk, while people a few houses down took in both Mira and Comet.
Onyx couldn't say that they knew where Hero went off to, but they always assumed it was probably a nice household- their housefolk were pretty kind people, and Onyx always doubted they would ever give their siblings away to anyone who they didn't know were good people, too. It didn't bother them much, anyway- the only one they would have been really sad to see gone would have been Mira, who was not too far away for either to visit each other, anyway. It was a nice life, meeting each other on fences or rolling around in the grass together. (Or, more accurately, Onyx laying in the grass while Mira rolled around.)
Onyx would meet Comet every now and again, too, and although neither were each other's favorite cat, it wasn't like either of them particularly disliked each other, either.
Still, the nice life can only last for so long, I suppose- about two or three moons ago, their housefolk had to move. One of them got some job offer that they just couldn't refuse- but they had to leave their cats behind, too- as ever, they were sure to find them a nice, kind home, but...
Well, it was fine for their parents, sure. But all the new housefolk wanted to do was sit around and and cuddle or pet, not challenge or teach them new things. Nor did they know the things that Onyx was so used to being part of routine- they fed them at the wrong times, thought Onyx was meowing because they were hungry and not because they wanted to go outside, and several other things that became a sort of dragging annoyance eventually.
It was the whispers and talks of clans, things they'd heard with their siblings from when they were kits being brought up again, that made them decide they really needed to leave. If the clans were really coming back, if there was even a possibility of that, it seemed like something they'd have to be a part of. Better than laying around being unhappy all the time.
So, one day, when they finally worked up the nerve, Onyx decided to hop up on the fence, walk themself over toward Mira's yard, and explain to both their siblings how they needed to leave their housefolk. Get out of here, go somewhere else. Mira showed concern, and Comet thought Onyx was just plain dumb, but there wasn't any stopping them once they'd made up their mind.
At this point, they've been out in the wild for about a moon or two, still trying to figure things out- they visit Mira quite often still, maybe hoping that she'll follow them one day, but it's mostly during the nights when all the twolegs sleep, not wanting to risk them seeing and trying to bring them back.
Family that I'm going to need played:
Mira: Absolutely NEEDED.
Comet (Sibling, played by Blueheart)
Parents?: Not needed, but I wouldn't mind having people to play them regardless.
